The La Vega Pilgrimage is a traditional procession in Icod de los Vinos featuring festively decorated 'pivas engalanadas', or agricultural vehicles adorned with decorations. In the Canary Islands, a 'romería' is a pilgrimage combining religious and folk festivities. The procession honours Our Lady of the Rosary and Saint Nicholas and is also suitable for families.
The La Vega pilgrimage takes place in the Barrio de la Vega in Icod de los Vinos. The procession features the so-called 'Pivas Engalanadas', decorated farm vehicles, which characterise this pilgrimage. The procession begins at 20:00.
The festival is held in honour of Our Lady of the Rosary and Saint Nicholas. Both figures are now part of the procession. The event thus combines religious devotion with local festive tradition.
The tradition of this procession featuring the 'pivas' has been upheld in La Vega since 1995. As a result, the pilgrimage is one of the more recent, yet already firmly established, romerías in this part of Icod de los Vinos.
