On display is a photographic exhibition, accompanied by related installations, exploring the role of women in everyday rural life. The municipality of El Sauzal is dedicating the 2026 edition to the village's washerwomen, the 'Lavanderas de El Sauzal'. The exhibition thus pays tribute to the women who washed clothes at the washing places, carried water to their homes and, alongside this work, also managed the day-to-day running of their families.
The exhibition ties in with International Rural Women's Day, which is observed on 15 October. The accompanying text for the event explains that the old washing places in El Sauzal were not only places of work, but also meeting points for conversation, shared experiences and social interaction. This everyday history of work, care and solidarity forms the backdrop to the exhibition.
The exhibition opens on Monday, 5 October 2026. It runs until Sunday, 25 October 2026, at the Mercado Municipal in El Sauzal. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 13:30 and from 17:00 to 19:30, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 to 14:00. Admission is free.
