"Ricky, el profesor de tenis" is a solo clown performance by José Luis Redondo, which will be staged as part of the Festival Internacional Clownbaret 2026 in the Plaza del Príncipe de Asturias in Santa Cruz. There will be two performances: on Saturday 10 October 2026 at 18:30 and on Sunday 11 October 2026 at 13:00. Both performances last 50 minutes and are suitable for all ages.
The story centres on Ricky, a former tennis star of the 1980s whose career came to an end following a doping test. Now in the throes of a mid-life crisis, he attempts to recapture his former glory on the streets as an eccentric tennis coach. The result is an interactive performance about failure, ego and second chances, in which the audience becomes part of the action.
José Luis Redondo combines humour and improvisation with circus techniques such as juggling, balancing and acrobatics. The artist initially studied sports science before specialising in circus and clowning at Carampa in Madrid and at Circo Criollo in Buenos Aires. It was there that he also founded the company La Mano Jueves. Other highlights of his career include the Teatro Circo Price and productions with companies such as El Circo de los Horrores and Cruzando el Charco.
