The theatre company 'Una hora menos' is staging the play 'Sahara' at the Auditorio Capitol in Tacoronte. It tells the story of a nurse from the Canary Islands who travels to El Aaiún in 1970 and, through a romantic relationship, finds herself caught up in the midst of war and political upheaval. The performance is aimed at adults; admission is free.
The story centres on a nurse from the Canary Islands who arrives in El Aaiún in 1970 for a temporary posting at the local hospital. Her life changes when she falls in love with Yahadih, a young Sahrawi who joins the Polisario Front in the struggle for the independence of Western Sahara.
Their relationship is marked by secrecy and war. From this perspective, the play recounts Spain's withdrawal, the Moroccan occupation and the repression of the Sahrawi people. The story intertwines personal experiences with political upheavals and depicts a woman's transformation as she navigates two worlds.
A second timeline begins in 1991 in the refugee camps. There, the main character is visited by Mercedes, a journalism student who wishes to document the conflict. In conversation with her, she looks back on a time marked by uncertainty, resistance and loss.
The performance by Compañía una hora menos will take place at the Auditorio Capitol in Tacoronte. It is intended for adults; admission is free.
