The programme begins with the overture to 'Ruslan and Lyudmila' by Mikhail Glinka. The Sinfónica de Tenerife will then perform a concerto for accordion and orchestra by Fazıl Say, a co-commission. The soloist is Ksenija Sidorova, who brings the accordion's unusual sound to the fore in this work. The piece is divided into five movements: 'Adagio, introduzione, cadenza', 'Moderato cantabile quasi Allegro', 'Scherzo', 'Andante' and 'Finale'.
After the interval, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4 in F minor, Op. 36, will be performed. The four movements are 'Andante sostenuto', 'Andantino in modo di canzona', 'Scherzo: Pizzicato ostinato' and 'Finale: Allegro con fuoco'. The concert programme notes describe the symphony as a work characterised by inner turmoil, lyrical passages, dance and a final outburst.
Delyana Lazarova, artistic associate of the Sinfónica de Tenerife, will be conducting. A pre-concert talk will begin at 18:30 in the Sala Avenida in the foyer of the Auditorio de Tenerife. Sergio Rodríguez from the Asociación Tinerfeña de Amigos de la Música (ATADEM) will lead the talk. Admission to the pre-concert talk is free, subject to availability.
Once the hall doors have closed, no further admission will be permitted. Admission to the concert is restricted to children aged five and over.
