The 23rd edition of Tensamba will take place across several venues in La Laguna on 2 and 3 October. To kick things off, the exhibition 'Belém do Pará, entre dos tempos' by Glauce Lima opens at 17:00 at Casa Anchieta. The photographer explores the Brazilian city of Belém do Pará through street scenes, social contrasts and the presence of Amazonian nature. This will be followed at 19:30 by an installation paying tribute to Tomi Cruz, commemorating a figure whose inspiration lay at the very origins of the festival in the Canary Islands. From 20:00, the Rebeca Mora Trio will be performing at Casa Anchieta, with free admission, playing Brazilian popular music, bossa nova, samba and jazz. Later, from 23:00, Julio Du Norte will be DJing exclusively on vinyl at Camerino 74 in Casino La Laguna, featuring Brazilian-influenced rhythms and sounds from northern Brazil.
Saturday begins at 11:00 at Casa Anchieta with the panel discussion 'Música Brasileña 2026'. Carlos Brunetto, Rebeca Mora, Carlos Costa, Marco Lobo and Vanderson Baobá will discuss the roots, evolution and current state of Brazilian music, as well as the musical connections between Brazil and the Canary Islands. Also at 11:00, there will be a demonstration of jiu-jitsu and capoeira at the Torre de La Concepción featuring The Fighters Club Canary Islands, La Laguna Urban Funcional and Camugerê. The event brings together sporting technique, movement, music and collective expression.
From 12:30, Brazilian percussionist Vanderson Baobá will lead a family percussion workshop at the Torre de La Concepción. He will teach Brazilian rhythms through listening, movement and playing together. At 13:15, Batuque Canario from the 'Guillermo González' Municipal Music School in La Laguna will take to the stage there, bringing samba and other Brazilian rhythms to the Plaza del Adelantado with drums, small percussion instruments and vocals. At 17:00, Dibatuka is on the programme, an inclusive percussion project from Tenerife that emerged in 2006 from music therapy work at the CEE Inés Fuentes and brings together people with disabilities from various centres and associations in a large batucada. A workshop on making instruments from recycled materials is also scheduled for 17:30 at the Torre de La Concepción.
