The Wigmore Soloists are a chamber music ensemble founded in 2021 under the artistic direction of Michael Collins, working in collaboration with John Gilhooly, the director of Wigmore Hall. The ensemble brings together distinguished musicians and performs a repertoire spanning various eras. The line-up includes, amongst others, a string quintet, a wind quintet and piano, enabling the ensemble to perform works with a wide range of timbres. With their performance at the Auditorio de Tenerife, the group will be making its stage debut in Santa Cruz.
The programme begins with Alfredo Casella's “Serenata”, Op. 46, comprising the five movements “Marcia”, “Minuetto”, “Notturno”, “Gavotta”, “Cavatina” and “Finale” in the form of a tarantella. This is followed by Sergei Prokofiev's Quintet in G minor, Op. 39, for oboe, clarinet, violin, viola and double bass. The programme features Thema mit Variationen, Andante energico, Allegro sostenuto, ma con brio, Adagio pesante, Allegro precipitato, ma non troppo presto and Andantino.
After an interval, Igor Stravinsky's “L'Histoire du soldat” is on the programme. The programme includes the “Marche du soldat”, “Petits airs au bord du ruisseau”, “Pastorale”, “Marche royale”, “Petit concert”, the “Trois danses” (featuring a tango, a waltz and a ragtime), “Danse du diable”, “Grand choral” and “Marche triomphale du diable”.
The Wigmore Soloists perform regularly at Wigmore Hall and on international stages, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the National Concert Hall in Dublin and the Yamaha Hall in Tokyo. Their recordings for BIS Records have won numerous awards, including a Diapason d'Or in 2023 for their recordings of the septets by Berwald and Beethoven. Admission to the concert is permitted for children aged five and over. Once the hall doors have closed at the start of the performance, no further admission will be permitted.
