The production blends tragedy and comedy. At its heart are two friends who are so close that they seem like sisters. Yet their relationship is overshadowed by a long-standing conflict: whilst one grew up sheltered and favoured by life, the other felt unhappy. The ensemble takes the ancient figures of Phaedra and Medea out of their classical context and into the present day, allowing an age-old fate to emerge from everyday characters, sweeping away everything in its path.
The setting is Cádiz, described as a city with an almost Macondian character. There, everyday signs herald the tragedy: the Levante wind, the cutler's flute, a circus on the outskirts of town, the chirping of birds and the chorus of the neighbourhood. The result is a playful yet serious reflection on happiness and guilt, interwoven with laughter.
The cast includes Teresa Quintero, Ana López Segovia, Rocío Segovia and Alejandra López. Ana López Segovia is both the playwright and director of the production. The performance begins at 20:00 at the Teatro El Sauzal. Tickets cost 12 euros (standard) and 9 euros (concession) for students, people under 25 and over 65, and residents of El Sauzal.
