Benayga Taller Teatro is staging «Yerma», a play about the unfulfilled desire to have children, a lack of love and the pressures of rural life. At the heart of the story is a vivacious woman whose desire for motherhood remains unfulfilled, whilst her husband comes across as cold and unpassionate. The play will be performed on two evenings at the Zálatta Espacio Escénico in Las Mercedes.

The production tells the tragedy of “Yerma” as a story of infertility, the frustrated desire for children, and a loveless relationship. The title character is portrayed as a strong woman who longs to fulfil herself as a mother, whilst her husband is described as petty and lacking in passion.
The absence of a child intensifies the drama of alienation between the two characters. The plot is set in a rural setting characterised by long-standing passions and prejudices that constrain the characters. In this way, the play offers a unique perspective on love from the point of view of procreation.
The performance by Benayga Taller Teatro is scheduled for Friday 2 October 2026 and Saturday 3 October 2026, at 20:30 on both evenings, at Zálatta Espacio Escénico. Admission costs 10 euros. Tickets can be booked by calling 685 656 053.
