La Guancha
La Guancha is situated at an altitude of around 500 metres between the towns of Los Realejos and Icod de los Vinos. The municipality on Tenerife was named by the Spanish explorers led by Alonso Fernández de Lugo.

When the explorers first set foot on Tenerife, the first thing they saw was an indigenous woman (Spanish: la Guancha) drawing water from a spring. When she spotted the soldiers, she disappeared into the laurel forest. Struck by the girl’s beauty, the captain of the expedition named the place La Guancha.
