A cayuco carrying 55 men of sub-Saharan origin, all adults, arrived on Monday at the port of La Restinga, on El Hierro, after being spotted by the Maritime Rescue Service 16.8 kilometres south of the town.
The Salvamar Navia vessel located the cayuco and escorted it to the port of La Restinga, where it arrived at 10.50 (Canary Islands time).
The 55 people on board were reportedly in good health, according to information provided to EFE by the Maritime Rescue Service.
According to the migrants‘ own accounts, they had undertaken an eight-day journey from Senegal, the country, along with Mali, from which the occupants of the makeshift boat originated.
