El Hierro continues to receive African migrants, specifically a new cayuco carrying 59 people, including three women and four minors, all of sub-Saharan origin, who were escorted to the port of La Restinga by the Salvamar Navia, operated by the Maritime Rescue Service.
Following a week in which 1,539 people arrived on this small island, the westernmost of the Canary Islands, aboard around twenty small boats, the surge in migration seen over the past month continues, forcing the reactivation of the reception and referral system.
This has continued with a new vessel that was detected at 05.00 on Monday by a SIVE radar whilst sailing some 17.6 kilometres from La Restinga, in the south of El Hierro, according to information provided to EFE by sources from the 112 emergency service and the Coastguard.

The Salvamar Navia came to their aid, and its crew escorted the vessel carrying the migrants to port; they disembarked on the island at 06.45.
On Sunday, the Government Delegation in the Canary Islands transferred 471 people who had arrived on small boats in El Hierro to facilities in Gran Canaria on a chartered ferry from the port of La Estaca. This brings the total number of people who have left this small island since last Friday to around 900, in order to ease the pressure on El Hierro’s resources, according to sources involved in the operation who spoke to EFE.
