The signing of the setting-out report for the works on the third downhill lane of the TF-5, between Guamasa and San Lázaro, is scheduled for next week, as a preliminary step to the commencement of works with a budget in excess of 58 million euros and a completion period of 35 months.

The setting-out report is the document used to verify on site that conditions allow the project to be carried out as planned. Its signing is a prerequisite for the formal commencement of works and usually marks the start of the contract’s execution period.

The project involves the construction of an additional downhill lane between the Guamasa junction and the airport junction, on a stretch of road that carries more than 110,000 vehicles a day, with peak traffic volumes that can exceed 12,000 vehicles an hour, according to a statement issued by the Tenerife Island Council.

TF-5: Construction work begins away from the main carriageway

According to the plans set out by the island council, the direct impact on the main carriageway of the TF-5 will be concentrated in the final stages of the works.

Initially, the works will take place in the vicinity of the TF-152, on the sea-facing side, where some of the space required for the extension will be created.

As regards traffic flow, the plan is to maintain the number of lanes available on both the TF-5 and the island roads TF-152 and TF-235, although the width of the carriageway may be reduced on certain sections to allow traffic to flow alongside the works.

The plan involves working 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in shifts, in order to make progress with the works and minimise disruption to traffic as far as possible.

Tenerife explains the redevelopment of several junctions

The Tenerife Island Council and the Canary Islands Government’s Department of Public Works, Housing and Mobility held an information meeting on Tuesday with municipal representatives and representatives from sectors linked to transport and economic activity to explain the phases of the project and the measures planned to maintain traffic flow whilst the works are underway.

During the meeting, the Director-General of Road Infrastructure, Rosana Melián, explained that the works include the refurbishment of the Guamasa and San Lázaro junctions, the conversion of the flyover near the airport into a new junction, and the construction of another junction within the airport grounds.

The Chair of the Island Council, Rosa Dávila, has warned that a project of this complexity may cause disruption and changes to normal driving conditions; she has therefore emphasised the importance of providing advance notice and maintaining constant coordination between the authorities involved.
