No one on holiday in Tenerife needs to miss out on the German Bundesliga – whether it’s on Sky or DAZN – or other sporting events. There are plenty of bars and pubs that show German football – from the Bundesliga to the national team – live. Whether it’s the European Championship, the World Cup or other major sporting events: we’ll tell you where you can watch them live.
El Drago: The Sky and football bar in Puerto
El Drago is the name of this cult pub, located just a few hundred metres west of the Plaza del Charco on Calle Puerto Viejo. It’s decked out with all sorts of football memorabilia. The memorabilia ranges from Chemie Leipzig to Fortuna Düsseldorf and Schalke 04. Inside, El Drago is clearly dedicated to Germany’s favourite sport, whilst outside it’s a typical bar from the Canary Islands.
The owner, Dragan, is particularly well known amongst German holidaymakers in Tenerife. His bar, named after the famous dragon tree, serves fresh draught beer and all sorts of drinks from the Canary Islands and Germany. When the weather is fine, the television is set up outside so that guests can watch programmes in the fresh air. Sociable people soon strike up a conversation with Dragan and other visitors.
El Drago is open every day from late midday. The TV is usually switched on just before the matches start and stays on for as long as the guests wish. A large beer costs from three euros. Guests are, of course, served by Dragan himself.
By the way: Directly opposite is a small bar from the Canary Islands where local live music is played in the evenings. Dragan’s terrace therefore always has a Canarian atmosphere, without the music interfering with the broadcast.
Live sport at the Gramophone Bar
The Gramophone Bar is the name of a corner pub in the east of the city. Near Playa Martiánez, at the junction of Avenida de la Familia Bethencourt y Molina and Avenida Venezuela, you can catch all sorts of international sporting events. Whether it’s the English Premier League, the German Bundesliga or simply live snooker: whatever’s happening in the world of sport is shown here.
A variety of beers are served to go with it. From local Fairtrade organic beer to Belgian exports, there’s something to suit every taste and budget. A large draught beer costs between 3.50 and six euros, depending on the brand. Depending on the waitress’s mood, you might even be offered some small nibbles to go with it.
By the way: Depending on how busy it is, the very friendly staff will sometimes put on matches requested by guests on a TV in the corner. This is particularly interesting for long-suffering second-division fans.
Plenty of football at Tasca Victoria
Tasca Victoria in Puerto de la Cruz is a football fan’s dream. That’s because, in addition to a huge TV, it shows almost every match and league. From the German Bundesliga to the English Premier League and the Spanish Primera División: Tasca Victoria shows them all.
The small menu is particularly worth mentioning. There are Rollos de Carne, which are reminiscent of cevapcici, for one euro each, and Papas Arrugadas with two mojos for 3.50 euros. There’s also a large, ice-cold draught beer for two euros.
So nothing stands in the way of a perfect afternoon of football at Tasca Victoria, 44 Calle San Felipe, not far from Plaza del Charco!
Bundesliga highlights and individual matches at Tasca los Lobos
Tasca los Lobos is situated in the west of the city, directly opposite Playa Jardín. This small restaurant shows live football on its terrace. In addition, a selected individual match is shown indoors every Saturday. Tasca los Lobos is situated at Avenida Francisco Afonso Carillo, Edificio Bahia Playa, 1 D in Puerto de la Cruz.
KöPi-Bar shows selected matches
The KöPi-Bar is situated at Avenida Betancourt y Molina 25. Current live matches are shown there too. A variety of snacks are available to go with the sport. The beer served is a nod to the bar’s name. Thanks to its proximity to the Gramaphone Bar, it offers a good alternative if one of the two venues isn’t showing a particular match.
Bundesliga at the coach station
Not far from the coach station and the post office in Puerto de la Cruz is the Bar Iris. At 20 Calle el Pozo, alongside live football, you’ll find drinks and snacks such as bocadillos at reasonable prices. What’s more, the local owners ensure a pleasant atmosphere.
