Traditional Canarian cuisine dominates the culinary scene in Puerto de la Cruz on Tenerife. Papas arrugadas served with mojo are available from as little as 2.50 euros. However, the other options featuring international cuisines are also well worth a try. Higher-end restaurants offer set menus, including a drink and coffee afterwards, from around 20 euros.
Restaurant tips for Puerto de la Cruz
In the more touristy parts of the town, such as around the Plaza del Charco, many restaurants attract visitors with their great atmosphere and unusual interiors. However, true gems of Canary Islands cuisine are often tucked away in establishments that may look rather unassuming from the outside.
Below you’ll find our top 6 restaurants and a recommended café in Puerto de la Cruz:
1st place: Tito’s Bodeguita

Tito’s Bodeguita is a restaurant, garden and wine cellar all in one. This oasis of culinary delights is situated somewhat secluded above the town. But the climb is well worth it: the food is outstanding and the wines are top-notch. What’s more, the service is exceptionally attentive.
The restaurant is owned by Tito and Ari, the descendants of German emigrants. They themselves are true Canarians and, in our view, serve the best food in the city. The dishes are creative and of outstanding quality.

2nd place: Bodega Julián

Bodega Julián not only offers Canary Islands cuisine and excellent local wines, but also a very special service: in this small restaurant in the heart of Puerto de la Cruz, the chef occasionally picks up his guitar and plays local songs. This experience rounds off an evening that is already wonderful in its own right.

3rd place: Casa Pache

Casa Pache serves down-to-earth and truly traditional Canary Islands cuisine. Tucked away in a side street, away from the tourist hustle and bustle, guests are treated to dishes just like those served in the local homes in the neighbourhood. Here you’ll find authentic Canary Islands cuisine – just as your grandmother would serve it.

4th place: Arcon Tapas

Whenever you think of Canary Islands cuisine, the taste of a good mojo immediately comes to mind. These delicious sauces, served with the popular papas arrugadas, meat and fish, taste different in every restaurant. Every family has its own recipe. And Alvaro Bazo’s is one of the best. What’s more, his tapas are superb and the outdoor seating area is lovely and quiet, situated in a lovingly maintained square.
Whilst the menu isn’t particularly extensive and tends to be slightly more expensive than that of its competitors, it offers excellent quality and still enough choice to not only get to know Canary Islands cuisine but also to learn to love it. We therefore recommend not only paying a visit, but also trying both mojos and a few of the tapas to go with them!

5th place: Don Camilo

If, after several days of Canary Islands cuisine, you simply fancy a plate of good pasta, you should give Don Camilo a try. The outdoor seating in particular is lovely, and the food – from pizza and pasta to meat dishes – comes highly recommended. There are slight deductions for the service, which can seem a bit grumpy on some days.

6th place: Los Gemelos

If you like fish, Los Gemelos is the place for you. Whilst the kitchen still has room for improvement with some of its meat dishes, the fish is consistently very good. The house speciality is bacalao. The seating inside isn’t particularly pleasant, but guests are well looked after in the garden.

And for coffee?: Café Ebano

If, after all those hearty treats, you fancy a slice of cake or simply a speciality coffee, the church square in Puerto de la Cruz is just the place for you: Café Ebano invites you to linger with its huge selection of delicious tarts, cakes and pastries.
The most popular spots are outside the café. But it’s also a great place to while away the time inside. We particularly recommend the fruity cakes, which are definitely better here than in many other cafés on the island.
