TITSA is the name of the operator of the rail and bus network on Tenerife. For many years, it provided a free fold-out timetable covering the whole island. This was usually out of print. Even the digital version has recently been discontinued. You can find out what you can do at the end of this post.
Whether it’s an express bus, a minibus or a standard scheduled bus: On Tenerife, almost all public transport operates on the road rather than on rails. There is just one tram line between the capital, Santa Cruz, and the neighbouring town of La Laguna, compared with several hundred buses. These buses operate on the motorways, country roads and in the towns and villages of Tenerife – all the way to Mount Teide.
This makes the bus both the cheapest and the most reliable means of transport on the island. Although there has been talk for years of an additional rail link between the south and the north – even the Transrapid has been mooted – the plans in question are very likely to be shelved again for cost reasons.

Modern, air-conditioned buses are now in service on Tenerife’s main routes, from the south to Santa Cruz and, in the north, on the motorway between Puerto de la Cruz and the capital. This is partly because the volume of luggage on routes between the urban centres and the two airports has been steadily increasing, making new buses with large luggage compartments essential. It is even possible to charge your mobile phone whilst travelling on an increasing number of buses.
On the less busy routes between towns and mountain villages, smaller buses are now increasingly being used; these have at least been fitted with air conditioning, meaning that the bus has finally become a comfortable means of transport on Tenerife. Due to the narrow roads, modern, large buses would face too many problems there.
Buses run at least once an hour to Tenerife South Airport and Tenerife North Airport. By the way: if you want to travel on a budget, you should definitely get yourself a TenMas (formerly: Bonobus) ticket. You can find all the details and prices for typical bus routes here.
TIMETABLE DOWNLOAD
Until now, you could conveniently download the timetable from our website. However, this is no longer available, as TITSA now uses an app. You can find the app for your device as follows:
- iOS (Apple) devices can find the Titsa app here.
- Android (Google) devices can find the Titsa app here.
- Can’t download the app? Then have a look here.
- Google Maps is also a great help. You can find it for Apple here and for Google here.
