The best Spanish restaurants in Lanzarote

← All restaurants in Lanzarote

Last updated: September 2026 (updated regularly)

Even after 15 years, Lanzarote’s restaurant scene still surprises me. This volcanic island boasts a culinary scene that stands out distinctly from the rest of the Canary Islands: Malvasía wine from the black lapilli soil, Lanzarote potatoes – considered the best in the archipelago – and seafood dishes with real character. If you’re looking for the best Spanish restaurants on Lanzarote, you’ll rarely find them along the promenade, but rather in villages such as Guatiza or La Santa, where locals fill the tables at lunchtime.

Lanzarote’s culinary scene: wine, fish and volcanic soil

If you want to eat like the locals here, you should be aware of lunchtime: between 2 pm and 4 pm, local restaurants are in full swing. The ‚menú del día‘ is available for between 10 and 14 euros – a three-course meal with a drink, offering unbeatable value for money. In the evening, the same dishes are considerably more expensive, and kitchens don’t open until 9 pm at the earliest. Cash is often required in smaller establishments outside the tourist areas. A knowledge of Spanish is helpful, as menus in authentic village restaurants are usually in one language only.

Tips for your visit

There are around 575 restaurants scattered across Lanzarote, ranging from the harbour-side eateries in Arrecife to the small eateries further inland. Papas arrugadas served with mojo rojo and mojo verde are a common sight on the tables. Fresh fish from the Atlantic, such as vieja or cherne, is often served grilled in many of these establishments. Meals are often accompanied by a dry Malvasia from the La Geria wine region, whose vines thrive in the black lava depressions.

Around 213 bars complete the island’s gastronomic picture, many of them serving tapas at the bar and a ‚barraquito‘ to round off the meal. The volcanic backdrop, with the fiery mountains of Timanfaya, characterises numerous terraces in the south. Thirty-three Indian restaurants have also set up shop between Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise, appealing to an international clientele.
