The piece takes as its subject tarantism, a ritual originating in southern Italy in the Middle Ages centred on the symbolic bite of a spider, and translates it into a choreographic form. In doing so, 'Quiso Negro' employs acoustic, kinetic and visual patterns in a ritualistic manner, moving through scenes of physical possession and catharsis.
The performance is divided into two parts. The first part is devoted to the preparation for the ritual, the second to physical exhaustion. Complex rhythms based on the pizzica salentina, the traditional dance of Salento, shape the course of the evening.
The concept and direction are by Ester Guntín. Six performers take to the stage. The work premiered at the Festival Grec in 2024, received the Institut del Teatre Dance Prize in 2023 and the Premio MAX in 2025.
The performance is part of the nationwide dance programme 'Danza a escena' and the 'Guiniguada en danza' series at the Teatro Guiniguada in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It is recommended for children aged eight and over. Tickets cost between four and 15 euros, depending on the seat category.
