The concert is part of the 'Jazz con encanto' series, organised by the La Palma Island Council's Department of Culture and Cultural Heritage. The series features three concerts in the island's most striking historic buildings and builds on previous initiatives designed to showcase music and special venues.
To round off the series, the José Vera Bello Quintet will perform at the Museo Insular in Santa Cruz de La Palma. The museum is housed in the former Franciscan monastery of the Inmaculada Concepción, a historic building dating back to the 16th century and one of the most important cultural and heritage sites in the island's capital.
The ensemble is led by the saxophonist and composer José Vera Bello. The band represents a younger generation of Canary Islands jazz musicians who build on the tradition of jazz whilst pursuing their own contemporary style. José Vera's second album is entitled 'Son de la Cueva' and features ten original compositions by the bandleader, who also wrote the arrangements.
The line-up comprises José Vera Bello, Luis Sánchez on keyboard, Idafe Pérez on trumpet and flugelhorn, Nelson Saavedra on double bass and electric bass, and Juan Pérez on drums.
