In this work, Andrea Catania explores the world of the twelve ropes, that is, the boxing ring, through in-depth research into movement and the psychology of boxing. The piece examines a form of violence that is socially accepted, regulated and structured, and presents suffering as a way of physically situating oneself in the world.
"Supergallo" traces the various ways in which a person would push themselves to the very brink of death in order to feel invincible and immortal. The choreographer is from Costa Rica and works as a dancer, teacher, choreographer and actress. She co-directs the Lasafueras company with the musician and artist Alex Catona.
The production was funded by the Proartes project with support from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport. It also won the award for best performer at the 13th edition of Masdanza. The piece has already been performed in numerous regions of Costa Rica.
