The two documentaries being screened are "Las horas ciegas de César Manrique" and "José Gopar, el artista vencido", both from 2026 and both directed by Concha de Ganzo. The director will be present throughout the evening, introducing the films and taking part in a Q&A session at Cine Buñuel in CIC El Almacén, Arrecife, following the screenings.
"Las horas ciegas de César Manrique" runs for 24 minutes. The film follows the frail artist, who is suffering from a detached retina, through the six hours he spends in New York before his flight to Spain. At his side is his nephew Eduardo, whilst Manrique reminisces about the city where he lived in the 1960s.
'José Gopar, el artista vencido' lasts 25 minutes and traces the life of the painter José Gopar. It tells the story of the son of a poor fishing family from Arrecife, who, through great effort, earned recognition as an artist, even exhibiting in New York, and who ultimately died alone and forgotten. Both films thus explore the life journeys of two artists from Lanzarote whose biographies took very different paths.
The double bill is suitable for all age groups. Tickets cost three euros and are available online.
