The municipality of Granadilla de Abona is organising its first cheese fair as a meeting place for producers, industry professionals and visitors. The focus is on regional cheeses and other products from the primary sector. Alongside cheese, other local foods such as gofio, honey and oils will be on display and available for tasting.
The programme is open to the public and runs throughout the day. From 10:00 to 13:00, a cheese competition and a live cooking demonstration featuring cheese are scheduled. This will be followed at 14:00 by a meal for participants, and live music will begin at 16:00. In addition, workshops, cheese tastings, stalls selling craft beer and other market stalls will be running until 19:00.
The fair includes a public cheese tasting, sweet and savoury dishes prepared in the show kitchen, as well as a tasting competition among participating cheese makers, followed by an awards ceremony. A demonstration workshop on milking showcases a traditional aspect of livestock farming and is particularly aimed at families with children. There will also be music from the Canary Islands and popular music throughout the day.
The event is organised by the Granadilla de Abona Town Council through its Primary Sector Department. It aims to raise the profile of local produce and promote direct contact between producers and consumers.
