Márcio Faraco will lead the evening with his voice and guitar, accompanied by Laurent de Oliveira on the piano. The concert is conceived as a chamber-music dialogue in which Faraco's singing and guitar playing meet the understated, finely crafted piano accompaniment. The programme offers a personal retrospective of Faraco's artistic world, featuring some of the most significant pieces from his discography, which has been released by labels including Universal Music and Harmonia Mundi.
Musically, the programme combines the poetic side of Brazilian song with the subtlety of bossa nova, the rhythm of samba and influences from jazz. The result is a pared-back concert evening, focused on timbre and expression, which presents Brazilian music from a contemporary perspective.
Márcio Faraco, born in 1963 in Alegrete in southern Brazil, began playing the guitar as a child and composing as a teenager. He has lived in Europe since 1992. He gained international recognition with his solo album 'Ciranda', which was released in France in 2000 and was created in collaboration with, amongst others, Chico Buarque and arranger Wagner Tiso. Over the course of his career, he has performed at festivals such as the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Nice Jazz Festival and the San Francisco Jazz Festival, as well as at venues including the Olympia, La Cigale and the Blue Note in New York. Laurent de Oliveira is a pianist, composer and arranger. He received a classical education and his relationship with Brazilian music was shaped early on by the influence of his father, Coaty de Oliveira. He later collaborated with numerous Brazilian musicians and contributed as an accompanist to around 20 album productions.
