The stage adaptation is based on Cristina Rivera Garza's book, published in 2021. It takes as its starting point the story of her sister, Liliana Rivera Garza, who was murdered by her ex-partner in Mexico City on 16 July 1990. Decades later, the author came across files, diaries and personal documents that Liliana had left behind. From this reconstruction emerged a work that not only tells a family story but also explores issues of gender-based violence, justice and memory.
In this production, the Mexican actress Cecilia Suárez takes to the stage. The dramaturgy is by Amaranta Osorio, and the production is directed by Juan Carlos Fischer. The production stems from an initiative by the Festival de Otoño.
The play will be performed as part of the Otoño Cultural CajaCanarias 2026 at the Espacio Cultural CajaCanarias in Santa Cruz. There will be two performances: on Friday 23 October 2026 and on Saturday 24 October 2026, both at 20:00. Tickets are available from CajaCanarias.
