At the centre of the play is Juan Negrín López in the final days of a defeat that is portrayed not only in military terms, but also in moral and ethical terms. Rather than a traditional biography, the play depicts a man under political and personal pressure. Public speeches, memories, moments of silence and private thoughts are interwoven, coalescing into a reflection on responsibility, democracy and the price of political action.
The production utilises a fragmented, malleable stage space in which time and perspectives shift. Scholarly reason clashes with the barbarity of war, whilst Negrín is portrayed not as a monument but as a figure who stands firm, even as much around him crumbles. Live music intertwines directly with the action on stage, transforming the historical material into a sensory theatrical experience.
The cast includes Toni Báez, María Filomena and Alberto Aliaga. The music is by Yul Ballesteros. The text is by Miguel Ángel Martínez, with adaptation and direction by Nacho Cabrera. The performance at the Teatro El Sauzal lasts 90 minutes and is recommended for ages 14 and over.
