The event re-enacts the old custom of the 'Remojo de los Chochos'. It commemorates how, in days gone by, the farmers of San Juan de la Rambla would soak sacks of this legume in the water basins of the La Rambla neighbourhood so that it would take on its salty flavour. The event forms part of the town's history and is also suitable for families. It also marks the start of the Fiesta del Humo on 10 October.

"El remojo de los chochos" is a new performance based on a traditional practice from San Juan de la Rambla. It centres on a custom that is no longer observed today: at this time of year, farmers from the community would take sacks of chochos to the water basins in the La Rambla neighbourhood and place them in the water. This is how the pulses acquired their characteristic salty flavour.
The performance draws on the history and everyday culture of the town and brings to life part of the neighbourhood's agricultural past. The event takes place in the barrio de La Rambla in San Juan de la Rambla.
The event also serves as the eve of the Fiesta del Humo, which takes place this year on Saturday 10 October. This tradition was revived in 2011. At nightfall, dozens of local residents walk down the Risco de Las Pencas on the slope of the Barranco Ruiz, carrying burning torches and wicks, all the way to La Rambla, where the festivities begin.
