The PP spokesperson, Borja Sémper, has argued that under a government led by his party, «control of Spain’s borders will no longer be outsourced», because the country’s public services «can no longer accommodate any more irregular migrants» nor act as «Morocco’s social policy».

«We cannot allow the security of our borders to depend on a foreign country. We are going to activate all the mechanisms at our disposal and those available to the EU to ensure that our borders are protected. Frontex will act decisively in the Atlantic corridor and, in particular, in areas such as the waters off the Canary Islands,» stated the People’s Party MP.

During a visit to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with PP leaders from the islands, Sémper announced that they intend to use «all the mechanisms permitted under European legislation to ensure that all those who have entered Spain illegally are returned to Morocco», a measure which, he emphasised, will be one of the first to be adopted by Alberto Núñez Feijóo should he become Prime Minister.

Sémper: Migration with humanity, but with firm action

The People’s Party spokesperson explained that they aim to undertake a range of reforms through the Spanish Government, covering areas such as migration, housing and education, in order to «enable citizens to get their life plans off the ground».

The PP, he said, is aware that the issue of migration «must be tackled with humanity», because we are dealing with «human beings, not express parcels», but at the same time it believes that action must be taken «with political determination».

«And we must make it absolutely clear that our public services can no longer accommodate any more irregular migrants. We simply cannot. And this is a message we must also convey to the outside world. Spain cannot take in any more irregular migrants. We embrace and welcome those who come to work. Anyone coming to Spain must have an employment contract. This is a reality we can no longer ignore,» he argued.

For this reason, the country’s borders, including its maritime borders, «must be protected», with «the support of the EU» to this end.

Morocco: PP calls for cooperation and clarification regarding Ceuta

«We must also work with the countries of origin (of migrants) so that those who feel they have no future in their own country can have one there and do not seek alternatives abroad,» he said.

Following reports that, during the Ceuta crisis, Moroccan warships entered Spanish waters, something the People’s Party considers «an unacceptable scandal», Sémper has demanded that the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, «show a minimum of dignity and appear before the Permanent Deputation to explain why this happened, what explanations have been sought from Morocco, and why he concealed this from the Spanish people».
