The president of UD Las Palmas, Miguel Ángel Ramírez, stated on Wednesday that he would like Juan Manuel Rodríguez to remain as manager of the ‚yellow‘ team for the rest of the season in LaLiga Hypermotion, although the club clarified that he was replacing the Galician Rubén de la Barrera, who was sacked on Monday evening, on a «temporary basis».
The club’s largest shareholder said during the opening of a medical centre in Telde that the results «have prompted us to take a decision we did not want to take», and although Rodríguez was appointed on an interim basis, he hopes he will remain «permanently» in charge.
In fact, he added that, in appointing Juan Manuel Rodríguez, they had opted for a manager «who knows the team’s strengths and weaknesses inside out», which is why he believes «he’ll do very well and will become the permanent manager».
UD Las Palmas: Players should take on more responsibility
Ramírez spoke to the squad following Rubén de la Barrera’s sacking, and says that the players «are aware that they need to give a bit more, although it’s also true that our experienced players aren’t at their best and we need them, because the younger players have been performing well».
With regard to the team’s target, they are now just three points clear of the relegation zone to the Primera Federación, the Gran Canaria-born president points out that «we’ve always talked about 50 points and I’m sure we’ll get them», and to do so they must be «all united, together and pushing forward».
Juan Manuel Rodríguez will make his debut next Saturday at the Gran Canaria stadium against CD Castellón, who are third in the table, and seven days later the yellow team will play at home again, against Real Sociedad B.
