On Friday, the Maritime Rescue Service escorted a cayuco carrying 120 people of sub-Saharan origin, including 23 minors, to the quay at Los Cristianos, in the south of Tenerife, according to sources at the state-owned organisation who spoke to EFE.
The Salvamar Alpheratz was dispatched to locate the cayuco after receiving a report from a member of the public who, from the shore, had spotted a makeshift boat sailing off the southern coast of Tenerife.
As it approached the cayuco, the Salvamar confirmed that it was sailing without any problems and escorted the vessel to Los Cristianos, a tourist resort in the municipality of Arona.
