Arona

Cobbled lanes and an 18th century church in Arona’s old quarter

The historic centre south of the town keeps its casonas and the San Antonio cross, while the wider municipality runs down to Los Cristianos with 15 kilometres of coast, dive spots and trails towards the Teide National Park.

The centre of Arona is less well known amongst tourists. Holidaymakers tend to head for the outskirts of the town, but also for the surrounding towns such as Los Cristianos, which also forms part of the municipality.

Traditional alleyways in Arona

The historic centre lies to the south of the town of Arona. Its focal point is the Church of San Antonio Abad, which was built at the end of the 18th century. The historic centre of Arona features a number of pretty casonas. Furthermore, the cobbled alleys and streets are perfect for a leisurely stroll. They retain the charm of traditional Tenerife to this day.

Furthermore, the old town hall and the Cross of San Antonio are among the sights in the town. The cross is situated in the middle of a green space – just a short distance outside the village centre. On religious holidays, it plays a central role for the town and its inhabitants, as it is dedicated to the town’s patron saint, San Antonio.
