The article about illegal parking in the nature reserve got me thinking. Have you noticed it too? There seems to be a rise in disrespect and a lack of consideration. And I’m sure you know exactly who I’m referring to. But I’ll get to that in a moment.
Every day, we all witness an increasing lack of consideration on the roads. It’s not just a matter of speeding and tailgating. No, it also includes reckless parking in nature reserves.
Be it those who get out of their cars in flip-flops and high heels to lie down on the road at Mount Teide and take a unique photo. Be it those who walk for hours through the nature reserve but can’t manage the 500 metres back to their car. Be it the quad bike tours that block the roads in the nature reserve, leaving a stench in their wake. Or the motorbikes that regularly hold races.
Parties in residential areas in the Canary Islands
But it’s not just here that you notice a lack of respect and consideration: rowdy, drunk teenagers and adults, screeching girls returning from the pubs in the early hours of the morning – none of them show any consideration for those trying to sleep.
Parties in residential areas organised by young people living with eight others in an Airbnb villa show not the slightest regard for the peace and quiet at night. Apparently, they believe that by paying the rent for the house, they have absolved themselves of any obligation to behave considerately.
We see all this every day. And it’s getting worse year on year. And it’s almost always younger tourists.
Tenerife tourists with no manners?
It’s scandalous that they’ve clearly had no upbringing. But even more scandalous is the behaviour of the Policia Local. Nothing is being done. They don’t answer the phone – and even if you do manage to get through by chance, nobody turns up on the scene. It’s precisely this years-long negligence on the part of the supervisory authorities that has led to a certain age group of tourists here apparently thinking they can do whatever they like!
I do not wish to talk about ‚discipline and order‘ here. However, if these people have not been taught respect and consideration by their parents or guardians, the law enforcement authorities on Tenerife are obliged to take action. And they must do so for the sake of those who suffer as a result of this behaviour.
Taking action means making full use of all legal measures. And what has always proved effective in this regard is hitting people in their pockets.
