Puerto de la Cruz

Lago Martiánez, the seawater pools César Manrique built by the Atlantic

The complex in Puerto de la Cruz covers more than 18,000 square metres and includes a shallow children's area, a heated pool for winter and palms set upside down in concrete. Entry costs 7 euros for adults and 4 euros for children, daily from 10am to 6pm.

The seawater swimming pool in Puerto de la Cruz covers an area of more than 18,000 square metres. It was built directly into the sea and landscaped with palm trees and other plants.

One of the distinctive features of Lago Martiánez is a group of palm trees set in concrete the wrong way round. The crowns are anchored in the ground, whilst the roots protrude into the air. Neutral observers usually wonder what the point of this structure is. Yet the installation simply falls under the category of art, which generally precludes such questioning.

In the centre of Lago Martiánez there is a huge fountain that pumps fresh seawater into the water park. There is a separate area with shallow water for children. And in winter, visitors can also enjoy a warmer whirlpool and a heated pool.

The city has since withdrawn from the project. A private investor has been running the swimming pool ever since. However, it has been retained in its original form, a condition the city secured in the contract.

Lago Martiánez: Admission and prices

Due to the withdrawal of subsidies at the end of 2013, admission prices had to be increased. Nevertheless, they remained moderate for a long time. Since the start of 2025, admission has cost 7 euros for an adult. Children pay 4 euros. It is open all year round from 10 am to 6 pm. Sun loungers are included in the price, but anyone wishing to hire a parasol must pay an additional 3 euros.

Lago Martiánez is a swimming pool for the whole family. There are lifeguards on duty, and support is available for people with disabilities. The size of this outdoor pool ensures that there is always plenty of space for every visitor, even on busy days, and thanks to the range of food and drink on offer, it’s easy to spend a whole day there.
