Puerto de la Cruz crowns its carnival king on the Esplanada del Muelle

The Carnival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is reputed to be the second most important carnival after that of Rio de Janeiro. But the town of Puerto de la Cruz, which one might perhaps describe as Santa Cruz's 'little sister', also has a carnival tradition that can certainly hold its own against that of the island's capital. As well as the "Gala de la Reina", Puerto de la Cruz also hosted the "Gala del Rey" this year - the gala to crown the Carnival King. The glittering carnival night on the Esplanada del Muelle was not only a superb example of creativity and imagination, but also of successful inclusion.
