Strong currents shadow the black sand of Playa Bollullo

On cloudless days, the view stretches across the region's green landscape all the way up to Mount Teide. On some days, however, the journey there is quite an adventure. You pass ruins along the way, and on the single-lane road you have to put the car in reverse time and again. On the way to the beach, you pass a small memorial. That's because the beach isn't entirely without its dangers. But more on that later... The Playa Bollullo is right next to Puerto de la Cruz, with Martiánez Beach within sight. To reach the beach, you have to walk down a footpath. Once you get there, it immediately becomes clear that this beach isn't your typical swimming beach. The current at Playa Bollullo is considered strong all year round. Warning signs point this out all over the beach. You really should only go for a swim here if you're very good at it - just like this gang who live on the beach. The reason are these man-high waves. If you fancy a break, there's a little beach bar. The food is said to be good. Drinks are also served. You are allowed to take them to the beach.
