Carnival on Tenerife

Secrets of Africa chosen as theme for Santa Cruz Carnival 2025

The winning motto took 2,588 of 7,290 votes, narrowly ahead of Ancient Greece. Santa Cruz de Tenerife has also fixed the dates, with festivities running from 31 January to 9 March 2025.

The Carnival on Tenerife isn’t quite over yet, but the new theme has already been announced. After all, 2025 will, of course, be another year with a carnival theme. So carnival-goers can already start getting ready for the new year.

The theme for the 2025 carnival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is ‚Secrets of Africa‘. This was the result of a vote, the outcome of which was confirmed on Sunday. A number of themes were put forward, and this one received the most votes.

This was announced by the Santa Cruz de Tenerife city council on Monday, following the conclusion of the capital’s carnival on the largest of the Canary Islands on Sunday. The dates for the Tenerife carnival have also already been set.

Carnival on Tenerife: This is the theme for 2025

2,588 of the 7,290 votes were cast for the winning theme. ‚Secrets of Africa‘ thus narrowly beat the competition: 2,136 votes went to ‚Ancient Greece‘, 1,385 to ‚The Kingdom of Ice‘ and 1,181 to ‚Technological Japan‘.

Javier Caraballero, the councillor responsible for festivities, made no secret of his delight at the new carnival theme. He said he was pleased to learn a little more about it. Furthermore, the theme would „boost the creativity of all the people and groups involved in our international festival“.

Date set for the 2025 Tenerife Carnival

For the city, planning for the coming year begins immediately once the current carnival has ended: „We have started work,“ said Caraballero. The 2025 carnival will kick off on 31 January and continue until 9 March.

The carnival on Tenerife is considered the second largest in the world after Rio de Janeiro. It attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.
