The performance depicts a woman in Lanzarote in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. Following her husband's death in a pirate raid, Ana uses her widowhood to manage her estate without male guardianship. She refuses to remarry, reorganises the work on her lands and defies traditional forms of power. Rumours about her lead to her being nicknamed 'Viciosa'.
The conflict escalates when Ana rescues Lucía de Cabrera, an enslaved Morisca whom the village accuses of witchcraft, thereby defying the Holy Office. The play is based on the novel by Ignacio Romero. For the stage, two theatrical texts have been combined into a production directed by Germán Barrios.
The production, by the Compañía Regañiza, brings together theatre, music and dance. The performance at the Auditorio Jameos del Agua in Haría lasts 80 minutes and is recommended for audience members aged 14 and over.
