Daniasa M. Curbelo will speak on the topic 'Se quedó p'a vestir santos: presencia y relevancia de mujeres y disidencias sexuales en contextos religiosos de Canarias' as part of the third series 'Una habitación propia'. The talk takes as its starting point a perspective that focuses on rural areas and the margins. The talk explores the presence and participation of women and sexual minorities in Catholic traditions and festivals in the Canary Islands, the associated stereotypes, and the question of how religious spaces have also become places of resistance, community and liberation.
This will be followed by a screening of Curbelo's short film "Los Llanos: el barrio que no pudieron borrar". It tells the story of the resettlement of hundreds of families from the fishing district of Los Llanos in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and of a community that continued to maintain the chapel and the veneration of the Virgen de Regla.
The event forms part of the third edition of "Una habitación propia. Visión y huella de relatos femeninos no contados", coordinated by Elena Ramírez at El Almacén. Admission is free.
