In her paper entitled “La forja de un monstruo femenino: Erzsébet Báthory entre el archivo, el mito y las poéticas de lo siniestro en la tradición”, Laura Blázquez examines how the story of the Hungarian Countess Erzsébet Báthory was culturally shaped into that of a monstrous figure. The paper also focuses on how this figure later became part of the Anglo-Saxon literary tradition.
Blázquez holds a PhD in English Studies and teaches at the Department of English Philology at the University of Jaén. Her research focuses on monstrosity, manifestations of the teratological in popular culture, and the body as a site where politics, biology and technology converge. Most recently, she co-edited the anthology “Vampiros” on the vampire myth, published by AKAL.
The event forms part of the third series, “Una habitación propia. Visión y huella de relatos femeninos no contados”, coordinated by Elena Ramírez at El Almacén in Arrecife. The lecture will take place at CIC El Almacén; admission is free.
