Volcania, Life on Mars: Documentary film with a discussion
The documentary film «Volcania, vida en Marte» by JuanMa V. Betancort is being screened at Cine Buñuel in Arrecife. The feature-length documentary “Volcania, vida en Marte” (2026) will be screened. JuanMa V. Betancort directed it, based on a book by Carla Valdés. The film explores the relationship between the volcanic landscapes of the Canary Islands and attempts to simulate life and settlement on Mars.
The film follows planetary geologist Jesús Manuel Frías to places such as La Geria on Lanzarote. There, he examines volcanic cones as models for agriculture and habitability on Mars. The screening will take place at the Cine Buñuel in El Almacén, Arrecife.
JuanMa Betancort will introduce the screening himself. The film will be followed by a Q&A session with the director and the artist Ildefonso Aguilar. The film is in Spanish, runs for 82 minutes and is suitable for all ages. Admission is three euros.
