Tenerife is a volcanic island. It lies in the Atlantic Ocean, around 1,300 kilometres south-west of the Spanish mainland and about 250 kilometres west of the African Sahara. Tenerife is significantly closer to the equator than mainland Europe and enjoys a mild climate all year round, making it the perfect destination for sun-seeking tourists.
