The Minister for Territorial Policy, Ángel Víctor Torres, announced on Friday that the Ministry of Transport plans to issue a public service obligation (PSO) for air links between the so-called ‚green islands‘: La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro.

He made this announcement at a breakfast briefing in Madrid, during which he emphasised that the Spanish Government has «delivered on the Canary Islands‘ agenda», a view, he said, shared by the president of the autonomous community, Fernando Clavijo.

He referred to the amendment to Article 35 of the Immigration Act following «an extremely difficult task»; to the specific measures for the reconstruction of La Palma; and to the more than 1.3 billion in regional funding, and wondered whether the PP would «scrap» that amount if it came to power.

Canary Islands: Agreements on airports and volcanology are imminent

He also referred to the signing next week of the «bilateral management agreement» for the Canary Islands‘ airports and to the fact that an «agreement is being finalised» for the National Institute of Volcanology, which will have offices in both La Palma and Tenerife.
