The Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has acquitted the former mayor of Granadilla de Abona (Tenerife), Jaime González Cejas, and seven former councillors of the offences of planning offences, malfeasance and influence-peddling with which they were charged in connection with their alleged links to photovoltaic power stations.
A key factor in the acquittal was the withdrawal of the private prosecution brought by the Sí Se Puede (SSP) party, as had also been the case with another of the cases tried as part of this major case in September; this was joined by the withdrawal of the prosecution’s case at the hearing held at the end of last year.
The so-called ‚fifth part‘ stems from an investigation by the Guardia Civil, which reportedly revealed a ’significant‘ increase in the former mayor’s assets, as he owned one of these plants valued at around 530,000 euros.
Photovoltaic systems: Charges against further defendants have been definitively dismissed
The involvement of the other defendants is said to stem from their having voted in favour of this course of action, as occurred in the case that has just been tried; these charges have been definitively dismissed.
