I’ve been driving an electric car for many years. And I’d like to continue doing so in Lanzarote. As someone who regularly hires cars (always for several weeks at a time), I’ve found that whilst hire companies do offer electric vehicles, they’re usually not available.
Last time, I was ‚upgraded‘ to a soft hybrid car. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a pointless piece of technology.
What’s more, the hirer receives no assistance whatsoever from the companies regarding the use of the charging infrastructure, such as a charging card or a list of charging points. The staff at car hire companies in the Canary Islands are completely uninformed.
An overview of electric cars in the Canary Islands:
- Range is really only a minor consideration in the Canary Islands.
- The vehicles enjoy ideal conditions given the prevailing temperatures.
- Car hire companies, in particular, could make a very good profit thanks to the low maintenance requirements of these vehicles.
- Holidaymakers could simply give this fantastic technology a go whilst on holiday.
Hope springs eternal. Perhaps one day electric mobility will really take off in the Canary Islands after all.
