Fish lovers, in particular, will be in their element at Los Gemelos. The restaurant offers a wide variety of fish dishes. However, classic meat dishes are also served. For both, the traditional cuisine is particularly recommended.
Los Gemelos – a paradise for fish-eaters
Especially at the end of the week, just after the restaurant’s day off, they serve cabra (goat) in a sauce from the Canary Islands. Conejo (rabbit) is also very popular with visitors. With classic dishes such as beef steak or the fillet skewer, the meat is often overcooked, despite specific instructions to the contrary.
When it comes to fish, however, nothing goes wrong. The fish dishes are consistently excellent. Bacalao (cod) is particularly popular. Originally devised as ‚poor man’s food‘, bacalao is now regarded as a speciality. It is the labour-intensive preparation that makes this dish so special: the fish is first dried and then soaked again for at least a whole day before cooking. At Los Gemelos, it is served in a traditional sauce from the Canary Islands and is often very well received, even by guests who are not particularly keen on fish.
Our recommendation: Meat-eaters should opt for traditional Canary Islands meat dishes. Unless you’re a staunch opponent of fish, you’d actually be better off choosing fish. The bacalao is superb! When it comes to wine, you should go for a local vintage. Especially when the young wines from the Orotava Valley are ready, there’s plenty to discover at Los Gemelos for a few weeks!
The restaurant’s atmosphere is only pleasant in the outdoor area. It is therefore worth waiting for a table if necessary. Whilst there are often still free seats inside, these covered areas feel rather cold. The service is usually friendly, at least towards Spanish-speaking guests. Those who do not speak the language, however, are sometimes treated rather brusquely.
Opening hours at Los Gemelos in Puerto de la Cruz
The Mesón Los Gemelos restaurant is located at Calle el Peñon 4 in Puerto de la Cruz. It is open from Thursday to Tuesday from 12 noon to 11 pm. It is closed on Wednesdays.
