How the litter map for El Hierro works
Anyone reporting litter simply taps on the map, uploads a photo and confirms the report by email. An image verification system filters out photos that do not show litter and blurs out people and number plates. Naturally, the email address is not visible anywhere.
Once the litter has been cleared away, any reader can report this by taking a new photo of the same spot. The marker then turns green and remains visible for 90 days. Markers that have not been confirmed by anyone for six months disappear from the map.
