How the litter map for La Gomera works
If a reader wishes to report litter, they simply tap ‚Report litter‘ and then the exact location on the map. They must then upload a photo they have taken themselves and confirm the report. We need their email address for this. An image verification system filters out photos that do not show litter and blurs out people and number plates. The email address does not appear anywhere.
Once the rubbish has been cleared away, any reader can confirm this by submitting a new photo of the same location. The marker then turns green and remains visible for 90 days. Markers that have not been confirmed within six months disappear from our map.
