The Canary Islands are bracing themselves for a spell of rain. The archipelago is expecting rainfall from Thursday onwards. In addition, thick clouds are expected to roll in locally and temperatures are set to fall.
Meteorologists at the Spanish weather service Aemet are not forecasting a storm in the Canary Islands, but they do expect weather that calls for an umbrella. Whilst temperatures of up to 30 degrees Celsius and largely cloudless skies are expected on Wednesday, the thermometer readings will drop slightly on Thursday.
However, the biggest change is expected in the sky, as the western and central Canary Islands in particular should brace themselves for mostly heavy cloud cover and rain from the afternoon onwards.
Canary Islands brace for brief change in weather
La Palma, El Hierro, La Gomera, Tenerife and Gran Canaria can expect light to heavy cloud cover and rain across most parts of the islands. Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are also expected to be cloudy, but with hardly any rainfall. It may clear up locally towards the evening.
It is set to remain rainy during the first half of Friday. However, temperatures will remain largely unchanged from the previous day. According to Aemet, it will continue to clear up as the evening progresses, and in many places the sun will even break through again.
Just in time for the weekend, the rain will largely clear off. There may still be the odd shower in the west, whilst the central and eastern islands are set to enjoy beach weather again on Saturday, with only light cloud in places. Sunday will follow this trend: clouds are expected to become increasingly scarce, and there should be no more rain on La Palma either.
