Super 95 has fallen by 4.6 cents per litre on Lanzarote within a week – a sharper drop than on any other island. Fuel prices across the Canary Islands fell overall, though by varying amounts. Lanzarote is also home to the cheapest diesel filling station in the archipelago, charging 15.9 cents less than the island average.
Across the Canary Islands, both fuels are cheaper than before. Premium petrol costs an average of 1.543 euros per litre, down from 1.555 euros a week earlier. Diesel costs 1.706 euros, down from 1.710 euros, representing a fall of just 0.4 cents.
If you want to fill up cheaply, you need to pay attention to the type of fuel. For diesel, the island average Fuerteventura comes out on top, whilst for petrol it’s Gran Canaria. Gran Canaria also has the cheapest individual petrol station. It undercuts the island average by 15.9 cents – exactly the same as the diesel filling station on Lanzarote.
Fuerteventura: Diesel remains the cheapest compared with other islands
Fuerteventura was already top of the diesel price rankings back in the summer. There is currently a 32-cent difference in diesel prices between the most expensive and the cheapest island. Four of the seven islands are more expensive than the Canary Islands average for both types of fuel. An overview of diesel prices across all the islands:
| Place | Island | Average price | Cheapest station | Distance to the Canary Islands average | Petrol stations |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Fuerteventura | 1.658 euros | 1.569 euros | 4.8 cents cheaper | 27 |
| 2 | Gran Canaria | 1.672 euros | 1.539 euros | 3.4 cents below | 182 |
| 3 | Lanzarote | 1,686 euros | 1.527 euros | 2 cents less | 47 |
| 4 | Tenerife | 1,719 euros | 1,569 euros | 1.3 cents above | 210 |
| 5 | La Palma | 1,877 euros | 1.719 euros | 17.1 cents above | 20 |
| 6 | El Hierro | 1,970 euros | 1.893 euros | 26.4 cents above that | 4 |
| 7 | La Gomera | 1,978 euros | 1.969 euros | 27.2 cents above that | 7 |
For Super 95, the difference between the islands is slightly smaller at 29.7 cents. Gran Canaria tops the list here, rather than Fuerteventura. Lanzarote is catching up thanks to a sharp fall in prices, but it is not the cheapest island for petrol. The ranking for Super petrol:
| Place | Island | Average price | Cheapest station | Distance to the Canary Islands average | Petrol stations |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Gran Canaria | 1.504 euros | 1.345 euros | 3.9 cents below | 182 |
| 2 | Fuerteventura | 1.518 euros | 1.415 euros | 2.5 cents below | 27 |
| 3 | Lanzarote | 1.527 euros | 1.347 euros | 1.6 cents below | 47 |
| 4 | Tenerife | 1.557 euros | 1.379 euros | 1.4 cents above | 210 |
| 5 | La Palma | 1.666 euros | 1.519 euros | 12.3 cents above that | 20 |
| 6 | El Hierro | 1.784 euros | 1.709 euros | 24.1 cents above | 4 |
| 7 | La Gomera | 1.801 euros | 1.799 euros | 25.8 cents above that | 7 |
La Gomera has the highest fuel prices in the Canary Islands
La Gomera is the most expensive island when it comes to fuel. At that time, the price of diesel on the islands exceeded the 1.50-euro-per-litre mark for the first time.
La Palma, too, is significantly more expensive than the Canary Islands average for both fuels. Until recently, petrol prices there had fallen the most, whilst diesel remained expensive. Tenerife, the island with the most petrol stations, is just above the average for both diesel and petrol.
