  • The Canary Islands-based supermarket chain Hiperdino is celebrating its 41st anniversary for five weeks from 24 September.
  • In the first week, the company is giving away vouchers worth up to 500 euros, followed later by sunglasses and cookery sets.
  • Hiperdino employs around 10,300 people across 295 branches. In 2025, the company contributed around 390 million euros to the Canary Islands' GDP.

Founded 41 years ago in the Canary Islands, the Hiperdino supermarket chain is celebrating its anniversary on the islands from Thursday onwards. The actual anniversary falls on 28 October, but the celebrations are set to begin as early as 24 September.

Under the slogan «How lucky to be from here», the supermarket chain aims to delight its customers with prize draws. Hiperdino announced this on Wednesday. Prizes will then be awarded to customers over a five-week period.

According to the company, the range includes metal water bottles specially designed by Canarian designer Texiade Santana, as well as fridge magnets, cloth bags and wallets. These prices are intended to symbolise the 100 per cent Canary Islands company’s connection to its homeland, it says. And that’s not all.

Santana is known for his quintessentially Canary Islands images, which often feature regional symbols and musical instruments. To mark the company’s 41st anniversary, the artist was commissioned to create a tribute to the shared homeland of both the company and its customers.

Whilst these prices can be classified as falling somewhere between practical and promotional, the chain also announced the introduction of vouchers. These can then be redeemed in its shops and at selected petrol stations.

«Hiperdino was founded in the Canary Islands and it is here that it has developed its expansion and growth plan. To mark this anniversary, we would like to thank our customers with a series of prizes that reflect what our homeland symbolises: a journey through our history, traditional craftspeople from our archipelago and elements with which we identify,» said company spokesperson Carlos García.

«The gifts feature, amongst other things, the dragon tree, Mount Teide and the Roque Nublo. In short: symbols of what the Canary Islands stand for,» García continued. In the first week, there will be five prize draws with vouchers worth up to 500 euros; in the second week, prizes such as smart sunglasses will be up for grabs, followed later by cookware sets from designer brands.

The company now employs just under 10,300 staff across 295 branches, amongst other locations. According to its own figures, Hiperdino contributed just under 390 million euros to the gross domestic product of the Canary Islands last year. Half of its suppliers are based on the islands; for agricultural products, the figure is as high as 64 per cent.
