The San Bartolomé de Tirajana Town Council (Gran Canaria) has granted Lopesan planning permission to build a new five-star hotel with 249 rooms in Maspalomas, in which the Canarian tourism group will invest 41.6 million euros.

According to a statement issued by the Town Council on Friday, the project is the Meloneras Boutique Hotel and will be built on a plot of 36,632 square metres over a period of 36 months.

The hotel will have 216 standard rooms, 24 suites, eight rooms adapted for guests with reduced mobility and an ‚imperial suite‘.

Maspalomas: Lopesan project set to create more than 250 jobs

The First Deputy Mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Alejandro Marichal, has highlighted the investment to be made in this facility, as «it represents a significant boost to the local economy«, with an estimated 250 direct and indirect jobs set to be created.

Added to this is «all the activity generated by a project of this scale in the construction, fit-out, supplies, maintenance, transport and other services sectors subsequently linked to the hotel’s operation», he emphasised.

Hotel Meloneras Boutique is to feature a spa, gardens and 102 parking spaces

The Councillor for Urban Planning, Davinia Ramírez, explained that «in addition to the 249 accommodation places, there are also dining facilities, a spa, a gym, swimming pools, solariums, gardens and service areas».

Ramírez has stated that «the project is integrated into the plot’s varying levels through a terraced layout and complies with the land-use and building density parameters established for this area».

The document states that the planned floor area is 14,488.07 square metres, representing 39.55 per cent of the Meloneras 2A plot, whilst the total allowable floor area amounts to 19,884.07 square metres.

The project also includes 9,260 square metres of landscaped areas and 102 parking spaces.

San Agustín: Lopesan modernises Abora Interclub Atlantic

The Local Governing Board also approved the licence to continue the refurbishment and modernisation of the Hotel Abora Interclub Atlantic, situated in San Agustín and also part of the Lopesan group, a project which also involves upgrading the hotel from three to four stars and will involve an investment of 2.4 million euros.

The project will enable the refurbishment and restoration of 24 accommodation units that are currently disused, through work to improve cladding, waterproofing and façades, refurbish terraces, replace sanitary fittings, upgrade installations, replace furniture and carry out minor interior alterations.

According to the statement, the work does not increase the number of units or the authorised accommodation capacity of the establishment.

Marichal emphasised that «facilitating the refurbishment of existing establishments is just as important as attracting new investment» in order to improve the quality of the tourist offering and maintain San Bartolomé de Tirajana’s competitiveness as a destination.
